Unlimited Sciences Announces New Executive Director

The nonprofit welcomes a new era of research, education and impact

Colorado Springs, Colo., July 2 — Unlimited Sciences, a nonprofit grounded in real-world psychedelic research and free education, is proud to announce a strategic leadership evolution: Katie A. Pickard has been appointed to lead the organization as Executive Director, while Matthew X. Lowe, Ph.D. retains his role as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO).

After three years as Executive Director, Dr. Lowe will now focus full-time on advancing the organization’s core research mission: leading the charge on naturalistic psychedelic studies that capture real-world use and elevate the voices of marginalized individuals. During his tenure, Unlimited Sciences:

• Published eight papers on the real-world impact of psychedelic substances, including psilocybin and ayahuasca, on underrepresented communities
• Launched the Psychedelic Info Line (2024)
• Conducted the world’s largest naturalistic psilocybin study (2021)
• Presented at major events, including MAPS Psychedelic Science (2023, 2025)
• Raised funding for several independent investigations on naturalistic psychedelic use
• Grew the organization by 10x and supported dozens of new organizational initiatives

Stepping into the Executive Director role is Katie A. Pickard, who joined Unlimited Sciences as Director of Education earlier this year. With over two decades of experience in brand strategy, coaching, marketing and communications, Katie brings a dynamic approach to scale the nonprofit’s impact. Her clear, inspired leadership will focus on raising awareness, reducing stigma and expanding the core pillars of Unlimited Sciences: free psychedelic education and naturalistic research that drives public benefit.

“Our mission hasn’t changed, but the energy behind it just leveled up,” said Pickard. “We’re still rooted in purpose, powered by people and inspired to change the world with evidence that psychedelics are medicine.”
