At Unlimited Sciences, our work has always been guided by one central question, “What best supports people before, during, and after psychedelic experiences?” Over time, that question has led us to refine our focus. Starting in 2026, Unlimited Sciences is no longer collecting or reporting data on synthetic psychedelic substances. Our research, education, and public-facing resources will now center on natural psychedelic substances and legally prescribed ketamine.
This shift reflects both what the science is showing and what we are consistently hearing from the community. This represents a return to substances with longer histories of human use, legal and decriminalized options, clear experiential patterns, and research trajectories that align with our mission of harm reduction, education, and real-world understanding.
Natural psychedelics like psilocybin mushrooms, ayahuasca, mescaline, and iboga have been used for centuries, sometimes millennia, within cultural, ceremonial, and community contexts. While Unlimited Sciences doesn’t study ceremonial practices themselves, we pay close attention to the way context, preparation, and meaning shape outcomes. These substances tend to be experienced within relational frameworks rather than isolated chemical events.
Modern research supports this perspective. Studies on psilocybin consistently show that set and setting, expectation, emotional state, and post-experience integration play a significant role in outcomes. Our own large-scale naturalistic studies have echoed these findings, showing that people who feel prepared, supported, and informed report more enduring benefits and fewer challenges.
Natural psychedelic substances also offer a level of consistency in subjective effects that impacts education and harm reduction. While every experience is unique, the general contours of these substances are well-documented across cultures and research settings. This allows us to provide clearer guidance around preparation, common effects, and integration practices.
Ketamine occupies a unique place in the psychedelic landscape. While It’s a synthesized medicine, it’s also one of the most extensively studied substances for mental health in contemporary clinical settings. Its effects, risks, and therapeutic frameworks are comparatively well understood, and It’s often accessed under medical supervision.
Research has shown ketamine’s potential to rapidly reduce depressive symptoms, including in treatment-resistant populations. It’s also one of the substances people call the Psychedelic Info Line about, often with questions around preparation, safety, expectations, and integration.
Because ketamine is already embedded into healthcare systems, clinics and at-home telemedicine frameworks, Unlimited Sciences continues to include it in our research and educational efforts. This allows us to support people navigating medically supervised experiences while maintaining a clear boundary around which substances align with our broader mission.
Synthetic psychedelics often come with greater variability in formulation, sourcing, and labeling. In real-world settings, people frequently encounter uncertainty around dosage, purity, and interactions. This creates challenges not only for personal safety, but also for research quality and interpretation.
Our decision to step away from synthetic substances is based on patterns we’ve observed over time. These include inconsistent reporting, higher rates of confusion around dosing, and fewer shared reference points for education and integration. This doesn’t mean these substances lack value or potential. It means they fall outside the scope where Unlimited Sciences can responsibly offer clear, evidence-based guidance.
By narrowing our focus, we are strengthening the reliability of our data and the usefulness of our public resources. This allows us to better serve first-time explorers, experienced users, clinicians, facilitators, caregivers, and curious community members alike.
If you’ve contacted the Psychedelic Info Line before, you may notice subtle shifts in how we frame conversations. Our Navigators will continue to offer nonjudgmental, educational support. However, our training materials, research references, and follow-up resources will be centered around natural psychedelic substances and ketamine.
This helps ensure that the information you receive is grounded in the strongest available evidence and reflects the lived experiences of thousands of participants who have contributed to our studies.
Unlimited Sciences is known for naturalistic, observational studies that capture how people actually use psychedelics in the real world. Focusing on natural psychedelics and ketamine allows us to deepen this work. We can explore long-term outcomes, emotional processing, shifts in worldview, and integration practices with greater clarity and consistency.
Our ongoing and future studies will continue to examine both benefits and challenges, including difficult experiences, contraindications, and the role of support systems. Transparency remains central to everything we do.
This change comes from a desire to be more intentional and accountable in how we conduct research and offer support. As the psychedelic field grows, clarity matters more than ever. By focusing on natural psychedelics and ketamine, Unlimited Sciences is aligning its research, education, and public resources with substances that have clearer pathways for study, support, and harm reduction.
We remain committed to meeting people where they are, offering grounded information, and translating complex research into language that feels human and accessible. That commitment hasn’t changed.
